Review of THE SHINING at Theater Vorpommern
“This is the place to mention the Vorpommern Philharmonic Orchestra. Under the baton of Alexander Mayer, Principal Conductor and Deputy to the General Music Director at the Vorpommern Theatre, the orchestra seizes every opportunity to bring Moravec’s immensely ‘colourful’, dazzling and often breathlessly pulsating score to life in exactly the same way. Stylistically, the focus is on modes of expression presented here with great conviction, which at times carefree evoke the traditions of great European late-Romantic opera; yet without ever giving the impression that one is merely revelling in the familiar. No, Moravec speaks a language all of his own, a gripping one, and the Vorpommern Philharmonic Orchestra has rendered this brilliantly.
